It is not of the very best by Pioneer, it is not of the very best cassette decks. which is a fool-proof calibration system for each individual tape, with the disadvantage, one cannot manipulate the bias currency in order to falsely gain more high tones response to the recordings. The level indicator comes with proper resolution, also in twin-range, offering 1.1,5 dB resolution around the -3.0.+3 dB range. The sound actually is very good, yet propably not of the very best, cassette decks have offered. But I really cannot state whether the line-out sound is that much lesser than by them best Pioneer models I have experienced. What I can say is, the phones amp is not as good as that of for instance CT-939's, CT-979's. The CT-S610 basicly is the same as the Dolby S model ST-S810S, yet with a lighter and less advantaged amplifier section. Yet, this is not of the very best by Pioneer. For instance, wow & flutter 0.023 WRMS, frequency response 15-20000.21000 Hz. The specifications given for the CT-S610 are good enough. Playback and recording (after auto calibration) was really good, and the test tapes was handled with ease! I threw some BASF super ferric at it and the calibration worked a charm! Also tried some other ferrics with same results, but this deck loves type IIs! Maxell XLIIS and TDK SA-X sounded amazing! Only drawback for me, is that is has no remote capability, unless you use the pioneer SR system remote, and for that you need another pioneer device with SR receiver, as this deck does not have its own receiver, just the SR in/out connections at the back. The Super BLS system works REALLY well! However, I would have liked the option to manually calibrate if I wanted to. everything is clear, well laid out and easy to use and operate. I like the appearance/design of the pioneer equipment around the 1990s, and this is no exception.
